Clarion River Update
We had decided in 2009 to make the Clarion River in Pennsylvania a project for our Chapter to get involved with. We have had some success with helping to secure safe access to the Trophy Trout Water on the Clarion River. Thanks to Jim Pulk (VP of the Board of our Chapter) for personally getting involved as well. As you will read in the slides below the River had needed help by many organizations over the years to protect it from Chemical pollution from many sources. This River is truly one of the most beautiful in the country with fish that are naturally reproducing in good numbers. The remote rivers in Pennsylvania do not have the visibility as the famed rivers in the State College area but many have the potential and history of large breeding populations. In 2011 we hope to stay involved with the efforts there as well as other watersheds that need our help.
As you can see the River holds some beautiful Browns, Rainbows, and you never know what you may get into there.
This was an epic Grannom hatch that happens every year like clockwork. They also get Significant Hendricksons, March browns, Green Drakes, Brown Drakes, Yellow Drakes, Sulphers, and just about everything else that you would see on Penns or Spring Creek.
The river receives plenty of cool clear water throughout the year due to many springs and the fact that the East Branch is a tailwater.
They Pennsylvania Fish Commision stocks the river with catchable fish and as I said, "you never know what you may hook".
Boy Scouts of America June 2010
A big thanks to all who participated in the TU Tent at the Boy Scout Great Trail Council Last Spring.
a Special thanks to Lance Kekel who volunteered a great deal of time and effort to be the lead on this partnership and event.
Dear Lance & Jim,
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for contributing to the success of Great Trail Council’s 100th Anniversary Jamborall during the weekend of May 21st-23rd. I am sure you noticed that there were quite a few people wandering through the Big Top Activity Area on Saturday; we had over 3,600 Scouts and their leaders from Great Trail Council at this once-in-a-lifetime celebration of Scouting. Your Akron Trout Club (Fly Fishing & Fly Tying) booth helped to make Jamborall 2010 the resounding success that is was; you brought wonderment, smiles and an unforgettable experience to the Scouts.
Please accept the attached certificate as a token of my appreciation for being part of Jamborall 2010. The Scouts and adults who came through the Big Top Activity Area really enjoyed what they saw and you were definitely part of that success.
If you would like me to create certificates for any others who were part of the event for Akron Trout Club, please email me to let me know. Once again, please accept my thanks for your efforts with on the behalf of the Scouts of Great Trail Council.
